LET'S TALK: If you had one thing to ask the new governor of Lagos State, What would you ask?

Let's Talk!

On May 29, 2019 Babajide Sanwo-Olu was sworn in as the Governor of Lagos State.

So far he has been doing a great job in office, but he obviously still has a lot of things to do to ensure the continuity of the massive progress of Lagos State.

So here is the big question:
IF YOU HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE A REQUEST OF SANWO-OLU, WHAT WOULD YOU ASK?

Also, if the government can work on the educational sector in the state by ensuring students are equipped with at least a skill acquisition right from secondary school. This will go a long way to solve employment challenges. The government should also, empowered them financially to start up what they must have learnt. Thanks.

  25. Thanks so much, Your Excellency, for displaying high degree of responsiveness in governance.

I would like to ask and appeal that you give serious thought to the debilitating traffic congestion that has been plaguing the Lekki-Ajah-Sangotedo-Epe corridor.

Your Excellency, no doubt, is aware that, besides the recklessness often displayed on our roads, mostly by commercial vehicle drivers and Keke riders, the single inlet and outlet roads in these areas, have in no small way greatly impacted the traffic flow. The high level loss of man-hour and it's impact on the state economy cannot be quantified.

I therefore appeal to His Excellency to give priority attention to this corridor.

Thanks and God bless you for this opportunity.

  38. Am a geography teacher and am concerned about waste management and it's effect on our ecosystem.
My appeal is that, there should build a plant that convert waste to bio gas and the gas created will be use to power some part of Lagos state. Let us not forget that most Africa countries has kick start this initiative love south Africa.
Sir, no need for seaching experts from abroad for the building up of this project. University of nigeria nusuka has all it takes to build this plant that will convert waste to money and power. Think about the revenue this will give to the state
Have you heard about wind power. Lagos is located at the south west of nigeria that shared a bordery with the Atlantic ocean. The sea breeze that blows from the ocean can be use to generate electricity, using wind roto.
Sir these two things I mentioned above are clean energy and renewable. Sir if you should invest in waste management and wind power, there will be an explosion of great opportunity, that our generations to come will not be able to utilized all of them.
Sir, if you love Lagos and give this thoughta trial, your name will be written in the minds of Nigeria's forever.

The system of Education in Today Lagos is purely empty. If I get your reply, I'll tell you more. Imagine a child posted to Model college, who claimed to have scored 81 at the entrance exam and doesn't know even numbers, cannot tell which is a metal between paper and pin, or who cannot even differentiate between consonant and vowel. Then there's is a very big challenge here. And it's a matter of time, if nothing is done to checkmate this, the state will be in total doom in a few decades.

  58. Sir is there any master road plan for this axis Eti-osa, ibeju lekki and epe? If there's... Then make it public just to boost the development of the areas particularly ibeju lekki so that people don't build on road and drainage. Ibeju lekki need more road inside residential areas both side apart from the lekki epe express way. So that what happen in Ado, Langbasa, Badore doesn't repeat it again and the worst thing is that it will hinder businesses in the free zone areas and refinery.

    Sir,
Implement a system that works properly for registered recycling company in Lagos, in other to:
    I. Manage waste & ensure environment sustainability
ii. Reduce waste going to dumpsite
    iii. Create more job opportunities.
Our company "TRASHUSERS SERVICES" is a waste recycling and social enterprises with a core service to address the problem of waste Management in our local community. We would have fulfilled the above but lack some mechanization such as:
    i. Truck to convey collected recyclables before and after processing
ii. Bailing machine that would help to reduce PET bottles in the environment.

The card represents the totality of what an individual owns, without necessary need to carry papers/documents around.

Its will be in partnership with the banks for the project finances,
This will be targeted at 2,000 fresh graduates of Lagos origin with brilliant and viable business idea.
The beneficiary school certificates, NYSC discharged certificate and one guarantor with landed property will be the surety in this project.
The 2,000 beneficiary shall be giving loan of #2m each. These 2,000 beneficiary will definitely employ two staff each directly or indirectly, means 9,000 youths has been engaged, this will reduce both unemployment and reduction in crime rate.
The ages of 21- 25 is ideal, cos most of them dont have people depending on them for now, they will be focus and determined.

  69. Your Exellency greetings. I belive that you should do the following which can be low hanging fruits for you.
    1. Paving, streetlighting and beautification are gemaine in urban renewal. Streetlighting in Lagos has proved that it can be commercialised and self sustaining. We will give you free solar streetlights and maintain them provided you have poles and will allow us generate revenue on the poles which the State Government can share from and increase IGR while deepening the streetlight coverage in the State.
    2. Proper Municipal Solid Waste MSW reuse, reduction and recycling will create thousands of jobs, provide concrete slabs for paving Lagos streets, increase access to portable drinking water and contribute Electricity for use in Lagos and sales to the national grid. We are able under a PPP arrangement able to deliver the first of such plants in 18 months and this can easily be upscalled all over Lagos State. Moreover the State Government will earn carbon credits for the benefits of embracing these renewable sustainable eco-friendly ideas drastically reducing the State's carbon foot print. What is more landfill mass will reduce by 90%. We will plan execute and sustain an incentive based source/household waste sorting campaigne as our CSR.
We will gladly partner your Excellecy to harvest these low hanging fruits.
    Kind regards

  71. God bless you your excellency for this privilege to communicate with you directly.

Sir, If we look around us today we see lots of youths full of energy and intelligence, investing that strength wrongly into cyber crimes all because the job they were trained to get after graduating from school is no longer there.

I don't blame them and i blame them. I don't blame them because they lack knowledge. I blame them because ignorance is not totally an excuse.

Yes, this is because i have once been a victim of searching for job for years until i decided to take the bull by the horn by creating a job for myself without passing the blame on my parents or the government.

I realized that the Government are trying their best but can not solve all the unemployment issue, and paid employment is NOT the only way to generate income.

Entrepreneurship is also an excellent way to generate good income, and not just any form of business, but a highly profitable business that anyone ready to learn can earn and be a blessing to the society at large and not a curse.

Fortunately i work with an organization where we train youths and empower them on how they can be financially relevant to themselves and be a blessing to their generation. Many of them are doing well and are earning half a million plus monthly whereas their mates who are still bent at jobs, got tired and are now professionals at defrauding white guys online.

Only to be caught and be wasted for investing their skills wrongly ...

Sir, i humbly ask you work with us by empowering these youths , train them, educate them using digital marketing skills so that they can be useful and receive Gods blessing for investing their skills in the right direction.

Positive Mentorship is the key to unlock hidden wealth.

The former governor did, even down to my street though he refused to fund the project again toward the end of his government perhaps because he wasn't allowed to continue. Lagos streets were lifely it boost the economic activities and enhance the security of the neighborhood. I did proudly tell people I live in Lagos even when i shared boundry with Ogun State. The power generators are idle little time we talk of mentenance please do something Mr. Sanwolu.

  75. Your excellency sir. My name is Fagun Sikiru. I had allocations with the land bureau for almost 10 years now (Rose Garden and Igbogbo GRA) with all fees paid. I have confirmation letters for the 2 lands. All efforts to take possession of the lands proved abortive. All my several visits to land bureau yield no result. The most unfortunate aspect of my story is that I lost the original papers of the lands in transit during one of my visits. Alhamdulillah I have Photocopies. I will be most grateful if you can use your good office to assist me.

  81. My Great idea is focused on the road damaged problem along that connects mile 2 to Apapa where a huge revenue is being fetched at Lagos Tincan Island Port Sir. According to my Observations the major problem causing re-ocurring annually is the over used of the road and the heavy loads with magnificent weight carried Inside containers being imported viaTincan Port. I have imagined how much Money the Lagos State government have been spending annually on that road which amount to nothing but a great loss and wastage of Funds Sir considering the fact that it will still be spent every other year. The simple but logical way out is to properly maintain the road by enacting laws against the conveying of too heavy loads by Trailers and truck drivers Sir. To properly maintain this road, the Lagos Government should think about the utilization of Her Wide array of water on which this goods can be conveyed without having to damage the roads, cause blockage due to incessant faulty trucks being used on the roads which will eventually cause road blocks when faulty and motionless. I believe the Lagos government can divert all these trucks carrying heavy loads to be carried on water that connect from Tincan/Apapa to mile 2 then from there they can find their way to their various destinations. I learnt that the Apapa waters also link up to Ikorodu which is a common destination for some trucks loaded with containers too. The Government can provide some amount of wide metallic platform which is heavy enough to float on the sea. These platforms can serve as a large trays that can float on the sea which will have a point of entrance for trailers loaded with containers and then connected to big flying boats that will propel the large trays on which the trucks carrying the containers are being arranged and moved to routes that links with the apapa water like mile 2, ikorodu, the Island and other areas that link up to the water. These will help avoid the overloading and over reliance on the single road and help keep it in good conditions. So Lagos government should just make it a law for trucks or trailers carrying heavy imported loads of certain weights maybe over 20 tonnes or 10,000 kg and above

  82. Another area I wish the Lagos State can make impact in her state is in the area of Abuse of Illicit street drugs that has been ravaging our adolescent and youths Sir. "The glory of a state is in the strength and mental and physical wellness of her youths and citizens at large". This matter has been devouring a lot of talented youths residing in Lagos and the country at large Sir and to my investigation these illegal drugs are taking over our community and becoming household products. I have been observing since about few years back that the rate of youth having mental illness (Madness) as a result of abuse of illegal drugs (Narcotics) has being growing massively at an alarming rate Sir and this scene is killing so many potentials born and bred in Lagos State. A mentally stable youths or Citizens at large is the greatest Human resources a state can ever have to Succeed Sir. Without a well and stable minds the State will be backward regressive in terms of Development Sir. I've heard of a lot that have died as a result of drug abuse and so many are still in the medical care battling ailments caused by this demonic acts which not curb or curtail can destroy the hope of future progress and growth of our darling and beloved Lagos State. I've seen a lot of youths who are already addicted battling with quiting their evil addictions but without enough funds to seek medical rehab and help. Please I suggest that Lagos State should start to create free medical rehabilitation centers for those willing to quit their addiction and be re-introduced and re-integrated back into the society so that the future of our Lagos can be secured and free these community destroying issue Sir. Thanks

  83. Babajide Sanwo-Olu It's an honour to have your excellency to listen to us. Sir a lot of traffics and congestions have been caused on major roads linking the people of Lagos to their daily jobs Sir. Many of these traffics are caused by the road construction workers working on the roads thereby closing the road for commuters to enroute to the place of their daily bread. I understand vividly that a State won't be successful and will never know a progressive growths if the people living in there are deprived of the rights to do their daily business and trade within the state. Major source of Government revenue are taxes either direct or indirect tax paid by various business entities and traders in the state. Now if there movement to their place of work is greatly delayed or completely hindered by the traffic and congestion on the road caused mostly by the road construction workers then the daily revenue that ought to be made by the government will also be adversely affected sir and this will hinder the maximisation of daily revenue earnings it the State. Take for instance a business man or trader going for his daily work and encountered a huge congestion on the road and eventually caused him/her to get to his/her job sites very late then he/she won't have more hours to trade or do his business that day and this will thereby by affects his earnings that day and reduce his purchasing power from which the government earn Indirect tax and VAT. imagine when millions of workers, traders and businessmen encountering the same fate everyday then this will spell doom to the chances of the Government making high revenues as trades and businesses are being hindered thereby bringing down the economy of the state Sir. So my Suggestion is that the government should always do anything at all cost to ensure that traffic jams are being managed on the road and also compel the construction workers to work only at night from Monday to Friday and have the road opened in the morning for free movement of people going for their daily breads. The road construction workers can be allowed to work at morning hours only during weekends that's Saturdays and Sundays but from Monday to Friday they should be compelled to working at night Sir and I'm very Confident that this approach will yield a great benefits for our beloved Lagos State and her government Sir

  87. Thank you sir for this golden opportunity and I believe you will go through this comment accordingly. For a way forward to majority of the problems bedeviling our society today centers on education. We have turned our educational system to the one that focuses more of certication rather than problem solving, I have been in the education sector for over a decade and my research had shown that we strongly can not move out of this series of quagmire if we don't develop a better strategy to address our problems: my suggestions therefore are;
    1. Reviewing our educational policy to address our problems, those saddled with these responsibilities are only being selfish to the realities in our hands. And that's why there had been more increase in insecurities and joblessness.
    2. We must start with a revolution of students engaging in critical thinking for the society and not for selfish interest.
    3. There should be a constant engagements of these students to deliberate and offer solutions to problems peculiar to their neighbourhoods, solution to a particular area can help solve the other areas. This will give the rooms the consciousness of problems solving and critical thinking.
There are more to deal with in the educational sector. Remember sir, that Bill Gates offered us the solutions to our problems by telling us to go back and adequately address our educational system. Thanks and I will be happy to engage you further and offer more of my suggestions to ensure your administration achieves what no other administration in the history of Lagos and Nigeria had achieved. Thanks Adeniyi Adebowale. gmresource82@gmail.com

  93. To the leader with difference and God sent to empower the unprivileged, I say kudos.

I am Michael Akerele, I have a vision to profer solutions to the Cybersecurity problems in Nigeria and empower the youths with my knowledge to do the same since our engagement and adoption in technology is getting improved daily.

There would be many cyber crimes, theft and hacks that would affect the governments, private sector, businesses and lives of people in the few years to come more than it's already happening.

And in mitigating this, I have purposed to seek knowledge in this area since it's what I have passion for and learn all that I can to ensure I become part of the solution-driven individuals who would prevent and solve these problems as well as teach other youths to replicate it.

Here is my request your excellency, I would appreciate your government if it can give me scholarship on this to one of the best Cybersecurity schools overseas to learn this and bring the knowledge home to invest and provide solutions to our own problems of Cybersecurity and others that are tech related.

Would be glad if you consider my application and grant my request your excellency.-Michael
