A court in the United States of America has issued a warrant of arrest against Allen Onyema, the chairman of Nigerian airline Air Peace Limited for alleged money laundering and bank fraud.

Premium Times in an exclusive report on Saturday, November 23, said court documents it cited showed that the warrant was signed by Justin Anand, an American magistrate of the US District Court of the Northern District of Georgia, on November 19.

The newspaper noted that it was unable to get a reaction from Onyema over the issue as his location could not be ascertained when the news was published.

The Air Peace boss might be extradited to face the charges against him as the US and Nigeria have a mutual legal assistance policy that allows both countries to extradite suspects facing criminal charges.

Legit.ng had earlier reported that Onyema was been charged with bank fraud and money laundering for allegedly moving more than $20 million from Nigeria through United States bank accounts.

Onyema who is the chairman, CEO, and founder of Air Peace, a Nigerian airline, was indicted in a scheme involving false documents based on the purchase of airplanes.

Air Peace chief of administration and finance, Ejiroghene Eghagha, has also been charged with bank fraud and committing aggravated identity theft in connection with the scheme.

The US authorities, however, stated that the indictment only contains charges.

The defendants are presumed innocent of the charges and it will be the government’s burden to prove the defendant’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt at trial.
