- Areas affected in the state include Apongbon, Obalande and CMS
- The federal government, through the ministry of works, explained that the exercise is continuous to curb activities that constitute damage and abuse
Some illegal fences under a number of bridges in Lagos were demolished on Friday, January 3, by the federal government through the ministry of works.
Bridges under which the illegal structures were destroyed are the Apongbon Bridge on Lagos Island, the Obalende-Apongbon Flyover Bridge, the CMS Bridge, The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
A senior engineer in the ministry, Musiliat Aloba, who led a team to the various sites explained that the fences are concealing activities (such as abuse and damages) that go on under the bridges.

Aloba said: “When you conceal the bridge, nobody can see what happens under. The federal government has lost so much money due to burnt bridges.’’
On his part, Adedamola Kuti, the controller of the ministry of works in the state, said that the exercise is a continuous process which started in 2018.
Kuti said: “Under the bridges belong to the federal government and the federal ministry of works ordered the demolition of illegal structures under the bridges in Lagos."
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that parts of Kara market along Lagos-Ibadan expressway were on Tuesday, December 31, gutted by fire.
Although the inferno has destroyed a lot of vehicles and shops in the popular cattle market, no official statement has been made on what caused the disaster or the extent of damage done so far.
Eyewitnesses and journalists report that the incident caused serious gridlock along the major expressway.
