JUST IN: Man jumps into Lagos lagoon from Third Mainland bridge

- The suicidal rates in Nigeria have increased in the last few years 

- Reports of people jumping into the Lagos lagoon via the Third Mainland bridge seems to be reoccurring incident 

- Rescuers are currently searching for a man who reportedly jumped into the lagoon this morning, Saturday, February 15

A report by The Nation indicates that an unidentified man has jumped into the Lagos lagoon from the Third Mainland Bridge.

According to the report, rescuers have been mobilised to the scene and are making frantic efforts to save him.

Vanguard reports that the man abandoned his car with his driver on the bridge and plunged into the lagoon.

As at press time, the man has not been found and further details are being awaited

Nigerians on social media are, however, reacting to the news, especially micro-blogging site, Twitter.

Last year, operatives of the Lagos State Emergency Agency (LASEMA) averted a tragedy on Tuesday, October 15 when they rescued a middle-aged man, Desmond Abraham, who wanted to kill himself by jumping into Lagos Lagoon from the Third Mainland Bridge.

Abraham, 44, who was rescued alive by the LASWA units, blamed economic frustration and family issues for his suicidal attempt.
